Talking things over can be important - our Swindon office Talking things over can be important - our Swindon office

DHI in Swindon provides a comprehensive range of practical and emotional support services to people using drugs. These services are available in our centre in Maxwell Street, and our staff can offer services in other venues or people's homes.

DHI is the first point of contact for all drug users in Swindon who are looking for help. They can be assessed by coming into our drop-in centre or by telephone. The assessment is the basis for referring drug users into services run by DHI or other organisations.

Our drop-in centre is open Monday to Friday It is a safe and comfortable place to relax where staff give people any support they may need including advice and information on harm reduction, health screening, accomodation and benefits .

Some drug users may not yet be ready to engage with services. We run an outreach service in which our staff go out to other centres and also walk the streets to encourage people to come to DHI for assessment. They also give them advice on reducing the harm that drugs do. This ensures that people stay in touch with treatment services.

DHI Swindon also runs a stimulant service for those using all types of non-opiate drugs (and those using stimulants as well as opiates). This offers group discussions, one-to-one meetings with staff, health checks and advice on harm reduction.

Our recovery service works over the long term to help people back to independence, offering many activities to promote self confidence and skills development and to encourage clients to use their time more positively. This service includes encouraging clients into education, voluntary work, employment and leisure pursuits. The team provides close support to those applying for and engaging with community detox and rehabilitation services.
