Somerset Family Floating
Support Service
Support for families and teenage parents
Our Floating Support service provides a combination of practical and emotional
support. The support is provided with the aim of improving life skills so that clients
are able to live independently. It can include advice on housing, benefits, access to
health care, as well as signposting and referring to specialist agencies.
We can work with people in crisis through our Rapid Response service and our Housing Surgeries. We will be able to offer initial brief advice that may prevent a problem becoming a crisis.
Who can we support?
We provide housing related support across Somerset to families and teenage
parents.
What is floating support?
Clients are given a named worker to support them
for a maximum of 2 years. This means that if you
move into new accommodation within Somerset your support goes with you.
How can we support you?
- Financial difficulties that make it hard for you to pay for your housing e.g. debts, rent or mortgage arrears, problems with benefit payments etc
- Understanding your housing rights and responsibilities
- Accessing other services or social activities in the community
- Maintaining your important utility services e.g gas, electric and water
- Resettling into a new home
- Resolving problems with neighbours
- Developing independent life skills e.g budgeting, living safely in your home
- Accessing education, training or employment
- Accessing childcare
- Accessing parenting courses
- Liaising with other organisations who may also be able to support you
- Other tasks that will support you to secure or maintain your accommodation
