Leading South West charity Developing Health and Independence (DHI) has launched an innovative new centre in Bath for people to quickly and easily get advice around issues linked to housing, alcohol and drugs.

Anyone can drop by DHI’s St James’s Parade centre for free and confidential advice, information and support. The centre is open 9am-5pm Monday to Friday, providing easy access to harm reduction and housing advice and support services. Some of the treatment services available at the centre include needle exchange, Naloxone provision, liver scanning and preparation for detox, as well as access to a wider range of therapeutic group interventions at our recovery facility. DHI’s Reach housing service can help people who are struggling financially to access or maintain suitable housing, as well as support to apply for benefits and manage finances and debts.

DHI supports people struggling with a range of issues linked to drugs and alcohol, housing, finances, mental ill health and employment in Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.

Trusts, organisations and local businesses have generously supported the development of St James’s Parade including Datasharp Integrated Communications, Nationwide Building Society, Bernard Sunley Foundation, Morrisons, Rotork, Odin Charitable Trust, and Battens Soliciters.

Dan Norris, Mayor of the West of England, took time out of his busy schedule to visit the centre and said: “It was an honour to be invited to launch this new treatment centre by the team at DHI. For a quarter of a century they’ve been on the front line helping people who have developed alcohol or drug problems. They’ve helped socially excluded young people – and crucially they’ve also helped find people find somewhere to call home.

“This new treatment centre will help them expand the range of services they offer. It was fantastic to meet Rosie and the team and hearing about the incredible work they do.”

Rosie Phillips, DHI Chief Executive, said: “After such a challenging 18 months we are really excited to be launching our new St James’ Parade centre in Bath.

“This great space will enable us to help more people at a time when demand for many of our key services is increasing. A friendly shop-front style drop-in means our staff will be available to talk to people there and then, without the need to make an appointment.”
